We knew it all along, but now detailed studies have established that Guys and Gals have entirely different approaches to selecting a car. The most common perception is that men prefer the faster and noisier cars that offer more grunt. To a large extent, this is true. The Dodge Viper — the typical American stereotype for macho cars has nearly 91% of its clientele being entirely men. However, it is not just the grunt factor, but also the powerful performance of these cars that have always attracted men.
Further, it is now being postulated that the sturdier the vehicle, the more men feel secure about themselves and it is this feeling that comes from buying cars like the Viper that has been attracting male clientele for so many decades. Women have been quite predictable is their choices and often combine a car as a part of things that are needed for the household. This is where the big difference lies — for men, the car is an instant confidence booster, an image thing. This is why the more compact and reasonably-priced cars like the Saturn SC/SL and the very popular Saturn ION model is witnessing an amazing patronage from female buyers or households where their decisions supersede in decision making.
Further, the easy handling and smooth ride quality makes it easier for the women drivers to drive for short trips and around the neighbourhood (read shopping). However, when it comes to SUVs like the BMW M5 or the Porsche 911 there are some surprising numbers as a large number of women, though still less in comparative numbers, are beginning to prefer these rather heavy machines. Why? These SUVs are no longer, what the conventional sports-oriented and truck-built autos were like. Their neat packing and the niche factor that comes with them is peddling them towards women too.
