Preparing for the NFL Draft

Every year we wait for football season to come back again. Look, for sports fans football is the king of all sports in America. This makes the offseason painfully long. To break up the long break we have the NFL Draft to look forward to. There is more coverage about the draft upcoming than the Super Bowl gets each year. You see Todd McShay and Mel Kiper arguing throughout the year about who is going where on ESPN. This makes it one of the top weekends for football throughout the year. Really it’s one of the best sporting events during the year. Think about it, if you don’t agree baseball is just starting, NHL and NBA playoffs are still in the first round and the Masters has already past. This is a good shot in the arm for the sporting world.
To prepare for the NFL Draft you need to get the weekend to yourself. If you have family it can be a little more difficult than you think. You need a couple of ways to get them out of the house for the weekend. This means you need to make them think they are getting a bonus by getting away. Offer up a mom and the kids’ weekend vacation. Buy tickets to a weekend event. If you cannot get them to leave you need to find a way to escape the house yourself for the weekend. A work conference is a great excuse. No matter your angle make sure to prepare it for the entire weekend.
You need to prepare to watch the event with friends. Screaming at the TV for your team to draft a player in the first round that has a seventh round grade will get you booted from the room. ESPN and NFL.com have all the information you are going to need. You don’t need to be an expert but you should only comment on the amount you know. For those who don’t have the time to do a lot of research, mock drafts can help out a ton. These will allow you to have an idea on who your team is looking to draft and give you points of reference.
When preparing for the draft you need to be in for the long haul. This event takes hours upon hours to complete. This means you need to have enough beer and food to keep the natives under control. Snacks are just not going to get it done. If ordering pizza get extra so there is extra snack food for later rounds. Stay away from liquor the event is too long for that. Beer is the only drink people should have.
Also remember the crowd should be smaller in day two. Only the hardcore football fanatics are going to look to watch the second day. Feel free to kick out people if they are waiting for mister irrelevant on the second day.
Overall you need a place to watch the draft. You also need beer and food for the crowd. Just think of it as Wild Card weekend and you should be set.
