Samsung signs deal with scientists for 10TB optical discs
Saturday, May 30th, 2009

The scientists from Australia claimed that they are coming up with a new optical disc capable of storing 10 Tera Bytes of data in a single optical disc. The team from Australia, Swinburne University of Technology, designed the related things like light polarization and light etc for the optical disc and these dimensions are available for the existing DVDs.
The storage capacity will be 10 thousand times greater than the normal DVDs that are in use. In the next five years, Samsung will sell the optical discs with the capacity 1.6 Tera Bytes and this 10 Tera Bytes optical diskette may take ten more years to hit the market.
As per the information revealed from the researchers, the ability to store the 10 Tera Bytes is possible mainly by the aspects like disc polarization.
The dimension color is designed by the use of nano rods in which, the plasma is formed, when the light rays falls on the disc. The main principle in using this color dimension is, these particles react with the light rays based on their shape and these allow storing large amount of data based on the wave lengths of the color. Single wavelength color is used in the current DVDs for storing the data.
As far as the dimension polarization technique is concerned, the information is stored in various layers at various angels. In this technique, it is proved that the polarization can rotate 360 degrees where the information can be recorded from the zero angel degree. At 90 degrees angel, another layer can be recorded without interrelating with the other.
These optical discs with 10 Tera Bytes capacity will enable you to store different types of files like MRIs or medical files, military and financial files etc.
