Solid Ink Technology Offers Low Cost Color Printing

The printer ColorQube 9200 from Xerox works as a multi purpose printer, which uses a new technology with solid ink. This printer does not require any cartridges. With this printer, color printing cost can be reduced up to 62 percent when compared with the other color traditional laser printers.
The color crayons made up of wax are melted and used instead of ink cartridges. At the time of printing the drops of color are sprayed at the speed of 150 million drops per second. This printer prints 38 to 85 prints per minute. The other highlights of the ColorQube other than solid ink technology include a tiny carbon footprint, energy star qualified 2009, low paper utilization due to two way copying and printing and the recycling. The waste of solid ink can be recycled where as it is not possible with the printers that work with toner cartridges.
The ColorQube can be obtained at the cost of 23 thousand Dollars and it is designed mainly for the business purposes. Prior to the solid ink technology, there had been printers that work on laser and ink jet technologies. Most recently Kodak offered ink at low costs when compared with the other brands. It is expected that the costs of color printing will reduce up to 62 percent by using this solid ink technology. The quality of the print will be same as that of produced by laser printers.
In the solid ink technology, the ink will be in the form of solid crayons and will be melted at the time of printing. The four separate print heads spray the ink at the rate 150 million drops per second. As the drops are sprayed fast, prints ranging from 38 to 85 can be obtained every minute.
