It’s always a good idea to want to make a great first impression on a first date. Sometimes, though, men don’t realize what they do on a first date and how exactly it can impact the overall impression of them. You may be a great guy, but if you are not getting many second or third dates, check out the list below to see if you are guilty of doing one of the top 5 things a men should never do on a first date.
1. Show Up Late
Showing up late for a first date is a big no-no. No woman wants to have to wait on a man, especially on a first date. Showing up late to the first date is just inconsiderate and rude. Be prepared and allow for enough time to get to the date so you are not late. Showing up 10 minutes early is a lot better than 10 minutes late. Unless you are in a car accident or someone in your family dies, you have no excuse to show up late for a first date with a woman.
2. Don’t Drink Too Much
Yes men, you can have a drink or two on a first date. It may actually relax you more and help you to open up more and be less shy. But, you should never, ever get drunk on a first date. If you can’t handle your alcohol, then don’t drink at all. This is a date with a woman, not a frat party. No woman wants a guy who drinks too much and gets inappropriate, because we all know, that is most likely going to happen when a guy drinks too much.
3. Don’t Mention Your Ex
No one wants to hear about your ex, be it a girlfriend or wife. Don’t mention how horrible she was or how great she was and how much you miss her. Don’t mention how hot she was or compare your date to your ex. Your date wants to get to know you, not your ex, so keep her out of every conversation on the first date.
4. Don’t Talk About Yourself Non-Stop
It’s okay if you talk about yourself on a first date, but if the woman never has a chance to say anything, then that’s not good. If you walk away from a first date knowing nothing about your date, this is a pretty good sign that you talked about yourself too much. Truthfully, we don’t want to hear you brag non-stop about yourself, so only bring out a couple of bragging issues and not them all. So, if you tell the woman that you got some award at work, don’t go on to tell her how much you can bench press, what your grade point average was, how great of a sports player you are, and what kind of material things you can afford.
5. Don’t Dress Inappropriately
Even if your first date is a picnic in the park, don’t show up looking like a hot mess and a slob. If you wear jeans, make sure that they are nice jeans and not the ones that you wear to work around the house in. If you are going to a nice restaurant, be sure to dress accordingly. Most women love men in a suit and tie.
