Juno: Every Chick-flick isn’t that bad

I agree with most people who say that spending money to watch movies like ‘The Princess Diaries’ and those stupid, pinked-out high school movies about girls going through their set of dating problems is a real pain. Most of them are adapted from novels (even Cinderella! If you can call that a novel) and have nothing to offer in terms of substance. However, I have come to the conclusion that all chick movies aren’t that bad, if you are smart about choosing them. One such movie is the Oscar-winning Hollywood production, called Juno. The theme of the movie revolves around a 16-year old girl, called Juno, who becomes pregnant, courtesy, her first night-out with a guy she found interesting.
Now, most of you would be thinking the movie would be some sort of a commentary on how girls and their families are supposed to deal with a situation like this. However, there is nothing of that sort here. There is not even an inch of predictability about the whole movie. In fact, Juno’s whole family accepts her fate within a minute after she tells them about it and is pretty cool when she goes out searching for adoptive parents.
So what it’s about? Well, everything else that matters in our lives — taking hardships in our stride, getting in touch with what we really want and standing-up for what we believe in. For those who haven’t yet fallen in love, the movie delivers a brilliant script about finding that someone special and clarifies that it is not just about compatibility and being attracted to each other that can make a marriage work. The whole movie is shown through the eyes of the girl and you have to see it to understand what parenthood means to different people. It also stars Jennifer Garner in a relatively insignificant but well-delivered role.
